We’ve made small but exciting updates to our cat recipes—bigger, puffier nuggets for a better bite and a few ingredient tweaks (goodbye spices, lentils, and sweet potato!).
Our packaging will be updated soon, but for now, the most up-to-date product details can always be found right here on our site.
Take me straight to: Ingredients | Feeding Directions | FAQS
Every pet deserves real food– whole, high-quality food that we believe helps all pets thrive.
What goes into recipes is every bit as important as what’s left out so, using nothing but whole foods, Dr. Bessent formulated limited-ingredient recipes. Then, using some rather cutting-edge spaceman technology, she freeze-dried them so that every benefit of raw, whole food was available for your pet.
It’s real, whole food nutrition without compromising convenience, and that really makes the decision around how and what to feed your dog simple.
It’s simple. it’s food as food should be.
Feeding Directions
Raw food requires safe-handling. Be sure to wash hands, bowls, surfaces, & utensils before and after feeding. Keep food sealed until ready to use & serve in a stainless steel bowl. Keep away from children & the elderly, and separate from other foods.
Feed according to the chart below, adjusting to your own cat’s needs. We suggest dividing up the serving suggestion into two meals, feeding in both the morning and evening. We strongly recommend adding warm water or a broth, but you may serve dry. Refrigerate or discard leftovers after rehydrating.

*A reminder that Simple Food Project can be fed dry, but we strongly recommend adding moisture. Whether broth, milk, or just water, we recommend adding it warm & letting it soak for 5 minutes. Always feed with plenty of fresh drinking water.
Using whole foods makes each batch unique. As a freeze-dried, whole food product, it's entirely normal to see differing amounts of crumbs in every bag. Sprinkle those nutrient-dense crumbs over their meal, add warm water to make a broth, or freeze the broth to make a pupsicle.
Not at all! While the nuggets are slightly larger and puffier, the core ingredients remain the same.
We’re always looking for ways to make our recipes even better for cats. Removing lentils and sweet potatoes simplifies digestion, and eliminating spices ensures a more feline-friendly flavor profile.

We understand concerns about avian influenza H5N1 and the safety of pet foods.
Here’s how we ensure our products are safe for your pets:
All Simple Food Project cat recipes undergo a pasteurization step at the end of the freeze-drying process. This step involves heating ultradry meat or organs to 165°F for at least 15 seconds, achieving a 5-6 log reduction of pathogens like salmonella, E. coli, and kills viruses such as avian influenza H5N1.
Is Pasteurization Effective?
Yes. The pasteurization process is considered sufficient to inactivate any virus in the meat, including highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 ensuring the safety of our products.
Do You Conduct Safety Testing?
Absolutely. We use third-party testing to validate the effectiveness of our pasteurization process and verify that every batch meets rigorous safety standards.
Should I Be Concerned About Feeding Freeze-Dried Products?
Not ours. Our freeze-drying and pasteurization protocols ensure that our products are safe, nutritious, and free from harmful pathogens.
And What About Sourcing?
We source all our meats from USDA-approved and inspected plants. Each supplier attests that all raw meat purchased for The Simple Food Project and Medicus Veterinary Diets is verified free from HPAI H5N1 and sourced from healthy herds or flocks. This verification is a key requirement in our Approved Vendor selection process, ensuring the highest quality and safety standards.
